3. Do you suppress viewpoints simply for being controversial or challenging a prevailing or popular narrative around homeschooling?
No. Homeschooler House is a free speech platform based out of (and serving exclusively) citizens of the USA. We support your unencumbered free expression.
4. Why do you moderate content?
We cherish free expression. We *ARE* homeschoolers, and we are homeschoolers with our own strong opinions. Homeschooler House (by Free Minds Thrive, LLC) must prevent illegal and other prohibited content from contaminating our platform. We maintain and apply our Terms of Service accordingly.
5. Why don’t I see my post?
We are a small team. We rely on the community of homeschooling adults to report concerns, as well as our own human review and moderation of content on the platform. Humans oversee the entire process (including volunteers within the community), and we will do our best to make fair judgments based on the information we have. We have some automatic processes in place to assist with removing content (such as when content or a user is reported multiple times), which helps our human team in cases of highly-concerning content or user activity reported by others.
6. Why did you delete my post?
We are human, and we are not perfect. While our automatic processes are helpful to keep potentially concerning or dangerous content from being visible on the platform, sometimes the automatic rules or human moderator get it wrong. That’s why we review everything before making decisions. But we also can not spend unreasonable amounts of time determining whether content should stay or go. Our moderators use their best judgment to ensure compliance with our Terms of Service. We are constantly refining and improving this process — including by identifying and correcting mistakes. We value your input!
7. What is the specific reason my post was removed?
We do not currently provide this information for content that is removed. We will communicate as best as we can, but we reserve the right to make these content moderation decisions without explanation or input.
8. Is my account automatically penalized if my post is deleted or reported?
The only automatic systems in place are those that are listed at the top of this page.
9. Why did you suspend/delete my account?
Accounts may be suspended automatically, or a human moderator may choose to suspend an account. We only delete accounts under extreme circumstances (at our sole discretion). We do not take this action lightly without careful review and consideration, as well as some attempt to best understand the situation and circumstances. While we hope to rarely suspend or delete an account, we will do so for violating our Terms of Service (at our sole discretion, which may occur without warning or notice). If your account is suspended for any reason, you will receive an email from us.
10. Could you please suspend or delete a user I dislike or do not agree with?
We will never do this. You can block users whose content you’d prefer not to see, and report content that falls under one of the reporting categories.
11. How can I appeal an account suspension or deletion?
The only time to add your input is if/when we reach out to you during our review of a situation. If you do not participate in this process (for any reason, including not seeing our communications), you will lose the ability to be part of influencing our decision. At any time, you may reach out to use with any concerns by sending an email to hello [at] homeschoolerhouse [dot] com. In the subject line, please write a few words about your concern and include your username. Our team will take a close look and consider whether communicating further on the matter is appropriate. Please note that some situations do not leave much time for a decision to be made, so we will make a swift decision when necessary at our sole discretion.
12. How long do suspensions or deletions last?
Suspensions are generally for 48-72 hours, but suspension may go on for longer if we must take more to review before making a decision to re-activate the account or delete the account.
13. What does it mean if I receive an email letting me know that my account has been deleted?
Account deletions are a rare and severe action, and are generally reserved for the most egregious violations of our Terms of Service. Examples include threatening violence, posting pornography, or infringing on intellectual property rights. Users may also receive account deletion following repeated account suspensions. Account deletion is PERMANENT and, as such, a deleted account can not be recovered.
